CÍRCULO DE BELLAS ARTES

CÍRCULO DE BELLAS ARTES

Founded in 1880 by a small group of artists, the Círculo de Bellas Artes was meant to be a cultural promotion center

Dat the beginning of the 20th century various relevant characters to the cultural era became directors of the Circle. Names such as Jacinto Benavente or Carlos Arniches. The Circle also had people such as Picasso attending its painting classes, or Ramón María del Valle-Inclán who visited frequently its halls. Even painter María Elvira de Salazar was a member of the Circle in a time when women could rarely access such institutions.

Nowadays it is a non-profit private cultural entity that has been declared as “Fine Arts Protection and Public Interest Center”. A multidisciplinary center where all kinds of activity takes place: from visual arts to literature, including but not limited to science, philosophy, cinema, and performing arts.
